Back To Winning Ways

Tynedale 47 Sheffield 11
In the clubhouse before the game I was chatting to one of Sheffield's props who was looking at the programme and remarking on the youth of our team, Tristan Grant in particular, probably expecting us to be fast and fit. And so we are, the team giving another display of exuberant attacking rugby, passing, support running, and with a determined defence.
Tyne fielded Sheffield's kick-off, took the play into Sheffield' half and came away with an unconverted try. There followed a period when most of the play was in our half and two penalties conceded to give Sheffield a 5-6 lead, In the middle of the half we regained the lead with a try by James Spencer, converted by Ash. While exciting, our play was not perfect. On 31 minutes and for the third time in the half a very promising attack was given away, almost literally, by the final pass going nicely into defender's hands. On this third occasion the defender streaked away from his own 22 for a converted try. Half time the narrowest of leads: 12-11.
Five minutes into the second half we won a penalty, kicked for touch with Oli Walker crossing the line on the wing and touching down closer to the posts. Sheffield's restart was fielded by Tyne and run straight back for another try. Same again from the next restart: three converted tries in five minutes taking the score to 33-11. From then on it was total dominance by Tyne: two more tries, final score 47-11.

Brian Tilley's report for The Rugby Paper
Magnificent seven for dominant Dale
AFTER two successive defeats. Tynedale roared back to winning ways with a seven try blitz of Sheffield. .
Only a point separated the sides after an even first half, but a burst of three tries in four minutes at the start of the second period put Tynedale clear.
Sheffield had no answer to their slick passing and strong running as seven different players crossed the whitewash,
Tynedale went ahead after just three minutes with a fine try by centre Will Miller, Ash Smith’s conversion attempt coming back off the inside of the post.
Sheffield hit back with two penalties from scrum half Steve Depledge, before Tynedale regained the lead through a converted try by winger James Spencer. They seemed set for another, but a slack pass was intercepted close to his own line by winger Rupert Broadley, who raced the length of the field to make it 12-11 at the break.
Tynedale made a sensational start to the second half, with tries by wing Oli Walker on 45 minutes, full back Rob Parker on 47 and Smith on 49, Smith converting the lot to make it 33-11, with the bonus point safely in the bag.
Flanker Ben Bell added another on the hour, before prop Richie Elliott wrapped things up with two minutes left, man of the match Smith converting both.
