As the XV a side game season draws to a close girls in the North get the chance to give Sevens a go. Tynedale Panthers have won the Northumberland, Durham and Yorkshire sevens festivals in recent weeks. First up was the Northumberland Sevens festival at Northern RFC on xx April. Tynedale won this tournament in style beating Morpeth, Alnwick and Ryton and then Ryton again in the final.
Next time out they had to travel to West Hartlepool RFC to compete in Durham Festival on 5th May. Again they were unbeaten playing and winning against Ryton, Gateshead, West Hartlepool and Houghton.
Last Sunday they set off from Tynedale Park at 7am heading for Sandal RFC near Wakefield and buoyed by their experience holding the Clermont Auvergne flag in front of a television audience of millions in the European Challenge Cup Final at St. James Park. The were awarded this honour when they received Northumberland Rugby team of the month back in October. Competition will always be tough in Yorkshire which has more girls playing rugby than any other county. Again they managed a clean sweep beating Baildon, Sandal, West Park Leeds and Doncaster.
