Tynedale are back on the road this Saturday - their first away match since their trip to Chester on October 9th. This week’s opponents are Rotherham Titans who Tynedale last played way back in the 1991-1992 season (although they were simply called Rotherham in those days).

After leagues were formed in 1987-1988 Rotherham shot through the leagues with multiple promotions. Rotherham did, however, dwell two seasons in Tynedale’s league (North One) before being promoted into the league above as champions with a 100% record at the end of 1991-1992.

In those days teams played each other only once in a season and Tynedale finished as runners up to Rotherham after losing their match at Rotherham by 16-4 in December 1991 and winning their other nine matches (4 points for a try then).
Having secured promotion from North One Rotherham continued on their merry way and after a total of seven promotions reached the summit in 2000—2001 when they played in the premiership albeit for only one season, although they did return in 2003-2004 for another single season in the top level.

Rotherham dropped into National Two (North) at the end of the 2019-2020 season but have regrouped well and have began this campaign very strongly winning seven and drawing one of their eight fixtures to date. (Like Tynedale their fixtures have been affected by COVID – two of their fixtures being postponed.)
