MATCH PREVIEW
This Saturday we welcome our friends Luctonians to Tynedale Park having made the long 259 mile trip from Kingsland in North Herefordshire. The visit of Luctonians always bring back dark memories of their first ever journey to Corbridge back on 5th December 2015 when Storm Desmond reaped havoc in the area leaving our pitches and clubhouse under several feet of flood water – our grounds and surrounding area being evacuated an hour or so before intended kick off.

Tynedale and Luctonians have played each other 7 times since the first encounter in February 2016 with Luctonians winning 4 to Tynedale’s 3. Six of these seven matches have resulted in a winning margin of 7 points or less.

The last match between the sides was the opening fixture of the 2019-2020 season (Saturday 7th September 2019) at Tynedale Park when the visitors claimed a narrow 36-33 victory. The lead exchanged hands several times with Tynedale ahead by 23-12 at the interval. Luctonians, however, came right back into the match in the second period and held a 31-30 lead as the match approached stoppage time. A late 80th minute home penalty seemed to have given Tyne a narrow 33-31 win only for the visitors to hit straight back with a try out wide with the final play of the match.

Interestingly only 8 of that 20-man squad are available for selection for this Saturday!

Luctonians’s only match of this season resulted in a 8-27 defeat at Hull on the opening day of the season. Their 2nd fixture, at home to Chester, had to be postponed after several Luctonians senior squad players returned positive Covid tests. Hopefully those who tested positive have made a swift and full recovery.
