FARMERS' DAY
Farmers, families, friends and associates have been invited to Tynedale Park this Saturday, as the rugby club is hosting another Farmers' Day. It promises to be an exciting game and a great day with plenty of good old farming craic.
The schedule for today is :-
• 12noon (if not a bit before) - BAR1876 opens for pre-lunch drinks
• 12.30pm - Pre-Match Lunch
• 2pm - Tynedale 1stXV v Preston Grasshoppers (Bar open throughout game)
• 3.40pm - post-match socialising

PRE-MATCH LUNCH
This season lunches will again need to be booked in advance (by 23:59 on the Thursday) using a simple on-line reservation & payment system. Due to a maximum capacity this will be on a first-come-first-served basis.

This Saturday we extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and supporters of Preston Grasshoppers.
We also, of course, extend a warm welcome to this week’s match officials Daniel Woods, Simon Lazenby and Dean Lythgoe.
We also welcome players, officials and supporters from our friends from Northern, South Shields and Peebles who are visiting our club today and not forgetting the match officials at these games.

TYNEDALE v PRESTON GRASSHOPPERS

The two clubs first met in season 1979/80 and have played 33 times since, with Tynedale winning 20 of those matches; Grasshoppers have 12 wins, and one, the most recent match, drawn.
Of the 33 games played 22 have been League matches;-

WHERE DID THE GRASSHOPPER NAME COME FROM ?
The name ‘Grasshoppers’ was chosen because, amongst the founders of the Preston club were several old boys of Cheltenham College. That school had a game ‘Fireflies v. Grasshoppers’. We could have been playing Fireflies today!

GRASSHOPPER STARS
Preston Grasshoppers has been a wonderful place to nurture rugby talent. After playing for the club many players won International recognition for England; Paul Grayson (32 caps), Wade Dooley (55), Steve Borthwick (57), Will Greenwood (55), Pat Sanderson (16), Iain Balshaw (35) and Alex Sanderson (5).

THE OLDEST CLUBS IN THE NATIONAL TWO (North) LEAGUE
Preston Grasshoppers is one of the more ancient clubs to our League. Three clubs are now older than Tynedale; Harrogate RUFC, Otley RUFC and Preston Grasshoppers RFC.

Preston Grasshoppers, like the majority of teams in our league, have had a mixed season to date and sit 3 places below Tynedale with only 4 league points separating the sides.
We are certain, as ever, to be set for another close competitive match.
