After three pre-season practice matches it’s the real thing this Saturday when we welcome old friends Sheffield RUFC to Tynedale Park.
Tynedale last played Sheffield in the 2017-2018 season on 4th November 2017 with Tynedale recording a comfortable 47-11 victory. The 2017-2018 season was not a great one from Sheffield’s point of view and they were relegated at the end of that season along with Luctonians and Blaydon.
The Tynedale squad that day was:-
BACKS: J Spencer, R Parker, A Smith, W Miller, O Walker, D Taylor, M Outson
FORWARDS: R Elliott, L Frankland, T Grant, G Dunn, H Snowden, J Mills, B Bell, S Powell
REPLACEMENTS: J Blamire, B Wilkinson, J Cousin, T Bramwell, J Clark

Last season a resurgent Sheffield finished 2nd in Midlands Premier behind Newport(Salop) and were subsequently promoted into our league after an absence of 2 seasons (not including 2020-2021).

There is never much in the way of form to go on at this stage of the season but it’s fair to say that Sheffields pre-season results have been very impressive and included convincing victories at Luctonians and Sandal. We expect a very tough match to get the season under away and need as much home support as possible – come along to Tynedale Park and have a great rugby afternoon.

Likely to be in the Sheffield ranks will be ex-QEHS student and ex-Tynedale Colt back-rower Alex Fawdry who has been an outstanding player for Sheffield over several seasons. Welcome home Alex!
