Tynedale v Sheffield Tigers
Saturday 13th April 2024 (KO 3pm)

WELCOME
This Saturday we extend the warmest of welcomes to the players, officials and supporters of Sheffield Tigers RUFC on their seventh visit to Tynedale Park. The match at Sheffield earlier this season, in December, was played in horrendous conditions. We trust Saturday's weather will be a bit kinder.
We also offer a very warm welcome to the day's three match officials and hope they enjoy their day out at Tynedale Park.

SHEFFIELD TIGERS IN RECENT YEARS
2010-2011
Sheffield Tigers were transferred from National League Three North to the parallel Midlands division.
They achieved second place behind Bromsgrove, and with home advantage in the play-off beat Chester 16-14 to edge into National 2 North.
2015-16
After suffering relegation in 2014 and narrowly missing out on promotion in 2015 with 107 points, behind Sale (113 points) and Sandal (110 points) the Tigers roared back in 2016 to regain their position in level 4 with 109 points.

MATCH EARLIER THIS SEASON - 9TH DEC 2023
SHEFFIELD TIGERS 0 TYNEDALE 10

(Report by Chris Leslie.)
Tynedale braved the Arctic conditions to come away with a well deserved win.
On a saturated pitch, with surface water lying, and in a freezing gale force wind with driving rain/hail this match was never going to be a classic and there was never going to be a load of points.

Tynedale played with the tree-bending wind in their favour in the opening half but couldn't capitalise and unusually for a rugby match these days the score was 0-0 at the interval.

A couple of players(backs) even took the opportunity at half-time to take a hot shower in full kit in an attempt to thaw out!!

With Tynedale facing the elements in the second half there were a few die-hard supporters who perhaps doubted our chances. However the visitors showed true character and grit and the crucial, and only, try came early in the second half with Ralph Johnston getting the touchdown following some dominant forward driving play, Josh Leslie converting for a 7-0 lead.

The momentum now seemed with Tynedale and an impressive defence coupled with disciplined driving play denied a strong Sheffield Tigers any opportunity to get back into the game. The Tynedale pack's dominance denied Sheffield's scrum half any respite, and a converted penalty from Jake Rodgers sealed the win with five minutes to spare.

Henry Wainwright, who is making a habit of "worrying" the opposition, was relentless in carrying across the gain line, ably supported by the rest of the Corbridge express.

The Tynedale squad that day was:-
FORWARDS: Rewcastle, Johnston, Caudle, Wearmouth, Dunn, Cousin, Wainwright, Vassallo
BACKS: Telford, Leslie, Dryden, Miller, Cramb, Beaty, Parker
REPLACEMENTS: Carmichael, Haigh, Nankivell, Hanning, Rodgers

SHEFFIELD TIGERS THIS SEASON
Sheffield Tigers currently sit immediately below Tynedale in the league, in seventh place, on only 3 fewer points and with a game in hand.
Sheffield Tigers have actually won one more match than Tynedale but Tyne have secured 21 bonus points, compared with 14 for Sheffield Tigers which has made the difference.
All very close – another close, competitive game is expected.
