We wish Leeds Tykes and their supporters well in National One next season, good luck and go well on your travels.
Message from Tom Wilkinson (Coach)
I’m so proud of all the players, coaches and general legends this season who have worked incredibly hard to finish 5th in National 2. Finishing with a win against Leeds was the icing on the cake. The squad is getting better all the time.
We are delighted to welcome Leeds Tykes RUFC, the new League champions, to Tynedale Park for this final match of the National League Two North 2024/25 season.
This is the third time their players, officials and supporters have visited Tyndale Park and we give them all a warm welcome today along with our congratulations on a very successful campaign.
We also, of course, extend a warm welcome to this week’s match officials Gavin Jones, Brendan Fitzmaurice and Rebecca Rees.
To EVERYBODY - Enjoy your day
LEEDS TYKES - THE CHAMPIONS
Last season Leeds Tykes appeared to be heading for promotion to National League One but the top of the National Two North table at the end of the season showed Rotherham to have just pipped them.
This table this season is completely different and shows the Tykes as runaway leaders.
THE LAST TIME TYNE MET TYKES - 7th September 2024

Match Report taken from 'The Rugby Paper':
“Pre-season title favourites Leeds Tykes lived up to their billing with a comprehensive victory over Tynedale. The Tykes, who narrowly missed out on promotion, laid down a marker ahead of the new campaign with a seven try demolition on opening day.
The visitors opened the scoring through Will Roberts, only to be kept scoreless for the remainder of the game by a stern West Yorkshire defence.
Leeds didn't take long to respond to their wake-up call with tries through James Magee, Adam Brown and Henry MacNab before the break. Debutant James Watts added two from three conversions to give a half time score of 19-5.
The home side, who've retained the nucleus of their squad who notably ran out of steam last year, laid down the gauntlet in the final quarter with tries from their mobile captain Brown, completing a match day brace. He led from the front as Toby Williams, Charlie Venables and Henry NacNab all scored to add an element of gloss to the full-time result.
Refusing to lose focus and knowing how close they were to promotion last season, the Tykes will take some stopping.”
PREVIOUS MATCHES (The trick is not to score first!)
The only time that the two clubs had met before 6th January 2024, (the postponed match from 2nd December 2023) was an EDF Energy National Trophy match played on Sunday the 21st January 2007. Leeds Tykes won 3 -36, with Tynedale, very surprisingly leading 3-0 after two minutes. That lead only lasted for 13 minutes.
The local Hexham Courant’s headline read “Tynedale heads held high in cup tie defeat.” The Tykes and their supporters were excellent visitors, and the Leeds club joined in the spirit of the occasion by waiving their entitlement to a 40% cut of the gate money.

LEEDS TYKES THIS SEASON
Unlike the majority of teams in our league this season Leeds Tykes have demonstrated a high level of consistency and have been most people’s tip for the all important top spot from day 1.
They’ve won all but one of their 25 games to date, their only defeat being a 26-30 reversal at Lymm on 9th November 2024.
“Interestingly” for a team who have dominated the league from start to finish the Tykes won nine of their games by only 7 points or less! As well as being consistent they certainly knew how to win the close ones – that winning habit!
