Report from "The Rugby Paper":-
This was a game that was more one-sided than expected with third against seventh in what has been a competitive season.
Tynedale were largely the architects of their own downfall, putting in plenty of effort and getting into promising positions but giving away possession too often and too easily against an Ionians side who were only too happy to capitalise on any mistake with Lewis Minikin the star.
By half-time the result was a foregone conclusion, the hosts 45-0 to the good, so not surprisingly the second half was something of an anti-climax.
Ionians scored at a point a minute throughout the opening period, with Alfie Celella's try the pick of seven scored by the hosts, though there was some cracking rugby in the build up to all the scores. By the time George Mewburn ran in the sixth just before the break Tynedale were a beaten side. Even the expletive team talk behind the posts unable to raise them from their predicament.
The second half proved to be less of a procession for Ionians, a combination of team replacements and a stiffer resistance from Tynedale meant the tries dried up, with Ionians adding two to Tynedale's one.
