Report taken from "The Rugby Paper":-
A late penalty try saw Tynedale claim maximum points in an entertaining basement battle.
Ionians seemed to be heading for victory when they led deep into added on time, but with Tynedale camped on their line, the visitors offended once too often and referee Dave Charlton’s arm went up for the penalty try.
The first half was a ding-dong affair, Lewis Minikin giving the visitors the lead on eight minutes with a try he converted himself. Tynedale hit back with a converted try from Oscar Caudle, but then gave the ball away from the restart for Josh Britton to gallop in unchallenged from 30 metres for a 14-7 lead.
Again Tynedale replied with a try from Seamus Hutton, but Ionians regained the lead on the stroke of half time with a touchdown from Sam Wilson.
Tynedale nudged their way in front with a converted Ben Bell try on 50 minutes, but two penalties from Minikin saw the Humbersiders lead 25-21 as the game went into added on time.
A high tackle on replacement Josh Leslie earned Ionians a yellow card, and with Tynedale earning a string of close range penalties which they chose to scrum, a penalty try was awarded.
