A cracking game was in the balance until the closing stages when Tynedale finally overcame a stiff Sheffield Tigers challenge.
Slick handling by James Broadley put Tom Calladine in for the opening Tigers try after just three minutes, but Tynedale came roaring back in style, with Joe Lilley crossing on seven minutes, before a charged down kick brought a rare try for prop Mike Hughes.
A Mark Ireland penalty after 17 minutes reduced the gap to 14-10, and although James Telford rounded off a good Tynedale handling move midway through the half , a strong drive from a Tigers lineout brought a try for Patrick License to make it 19-17.
Telford grabbed his second try on the half hour following a fine break by Joe Beaty, but the half ended with referee David Charlton awarding a penalty try when a maul was collapsed illegally, Tynedale's Will Nankivell picking up a yellow card.
An Ireland penalty edged the Tigers ahead by 27-26 four minutes into the second half, and they looked like staying there until Lilley got his second try with ten minutes left, and veteran skipper Chris Wearmouth celebrated his 38th birthday with Tynedale's sixth try at the death.
