Saturday 12th October 2024 (KO 3pm)
WELCOME
This Saturday we extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and supporters of Lymm RFC. We also, of course, extend a warm welcome to this week’s match officials George Ounsley, James Gray, and Andrew Irvine along with Performance Reviewer Jamie Leahy.
PAST MATCHES - TYNEDALE v LYMM
Tynedale have now played four times against the Lymm 1st XV.
The two clubs first met on the 28th September 1985, in a John Player Cup match at Tynedale Park. Tynedale won that match 22-0.
Since then the three league matches between the clubs have finished as follows:-
10th October 1992 - Tynedale 38 Lymm 15 League North I
23rd Sept. 2023 - Lymm 33 Tynedale 26 Nat. League Two (North)
20th Jan 2024 - Tynedale 36 Lymm 18 Nat. League Two (North)
Home advantage has made the difference. Can it continue in today’s match?
Draws In Rugby Union matches are fairly rare.
In the last twenty-five years before this season Tynedale played 671 league matches; only 20 (2.98%) have ended as draws.
Yet, on 14th September 2024, four weeks ago, we had a 19-19 draw against Billingham here at Tynedale Park. Then, last week Tynedale drew 31-31 with Preston Grasshoppers, Strange. The statistics show the likelihood of a draw has leapt to 3.26% if Tynedale’s results over those years are any guide. But, do two draws in five matches suggest a different picture. – 40%? - surely not.
LYMM RFC THIS SEASON
Lymm are probably the surprise package this season and after 5 matches they sit proudly at the top of our league, above pre-season favourites Leeds Tykes on points difference, having recorded a maximum 5 points from each of their matches. As their results below show they are a free-scoring side who have scored 31 tries, conceding 16 (Tynedale have scored 13 tries and conceded 25).
In their home fixture against Fylde on Sept 21st National League Rugby said about that game in their report – “Lethal Lymm beginning to turn heads – It was a far more comfortable afternoon in National Two North for Lymm as another relentless display saw them swat Fylde aside 49-14 at Crouchley Lane. A third win on the spin for the North-West outfit – who finished 10th in 2023/24 – leaves them as the early frontrunners and after last week’s scintillating display away at Chester, there was more attacking ambition from Lymm mixed in with the ability to keep the scoreboard ticking over …”
This is sure to be a tough one but the lads will be determined to record their first victory of the season and who doesn’t love knocking over the top dogs!
