SHEFFIELD RUFC V TYNEDALE RFC
Saturday 18th January 2025 (KO 2.15pm)

After a four week break the 1stXV head down into South Yorkshire to take on high-flying Sheffield RUFC.
The Raiders accompany the 1stXV on the journey to take on Sheffield’s 2nd string who defeated the Raiders back in September and sit top of the Yorks & NE Premiership with the Raiders in 2nd place.

TYNEDALE v SHEFFIELD
Last season (2023/24) Sheffield finished third in the league behind Rotherham and Leeds Tykes, with 92 points. Tynedale were 6th with 77 points.

PAST MATCHES

Tynedale 1st.XV have now played six times against Sheffield 1st XV in league matches. The first was on the 4th November 2017 when Tynedale won 47-11. The return that season at Sheffield was postponed and then not played as the result would not have affected the final table.

However, the two clubs had met before leagues in ‘friendlies’, and also on the 7th November 1992, in a Pilkington Cup second round match held at Tynedale Park. Tynedale won that match 21-14, having beaten Hartlepool Rovers 39-16 at home in the first round – but they then lost to Morley (who played in National League Div.2 at that time) on the 28th November 1992.

Without finishing top of any league Sheffield have somehow managed to gain five promotions with second place successes, in 2003, 2011, 2015, 2017 and 2022.

SHEFFIELD THIS SEASON

Sheffield have had an excellent 1st half of the season and are one of three clubs who are competing shoulder to shoulder for the single promotion spot. The only blemish on their season has been a home defeat to rivals Leeds Tykes by the narrowest of margins and they currently sit in 3rd position – one point behind Leeds and Lymm who have both accrued one more bonus point than Sheffield.
Its certain to be another tough, competitive match.
