HULL RUFC V TYNEDALE RFC
Saturday 12th April 2025 (KO 2pm)

Its our last road trip of the season this Saturday as we head into the south-east to take on Hull RUFC.

ODDITIES GALORE
What a strange season this has been for the Tynedale and Hull 1stXV’s.

Tynedale have two more League matches this season – on Saturday, an away match against Hull RUFC, who lie bottom of National League Two (North) at the moment, and at home on the 26th April when we play the runaway champions of the division, Leeds Tykes at Tynedale Park! Quite an end to an unpredictable season.

This may seem a strange situation for Tyne, but what about Hull? On the 26th April they have an away match at Otley. Quite a tough prospect, so they need, firstly, to beat Tynedale this weekend.

Earlier this season, on the 26th October 2024, Tynedale were bottom of the table in 14th place; Hull lay 11th and out of danger? Mm. very strange.

WHEN THE CLUBS LAST MET 14th December 2024
Tynedale 38 Hull RUFC 17

A Will Roberts hat-trick steered Tynedale to their first home win of the season.
Tynedale went ahead after 13 minutes when a swift exchange of passes saw James Telford go in under the posts for Cam Grant to convert.
Hull were quick to respond, however, and good handling down the left saw number eight Adam Brankley go over in the corner. Three minutes later an interception saw Michael Adlard run half the length of the pitch to give Hull a 12-7 lead after 24 minutes.
A swerving run from Roberts brought Tynedale level, before a lineout move saw Oscar Caudle plunge over to give the Northumbrians a 21-12 interval lead.

A superb individual try by Adlard brought Hull back into it four minutes into the second half, but another lineout touchdown by skipper Chris Wearmouth five minutes later reinstated Tynedale's nine point lead.
A perfect cross kick from Jake Rodgers sent Roberts in for his second try.The Hull defence then misjudged another well-flighted kick, and a delighted Roberts skipped in to complete his hat-trick.

REECE DEAN
When Tynedale and Hull met at Corbridge in December 2019 ace goal- kicker Reece Dean was the Hull full-back. Hull won 12-16. He was full-back again in March 2024 when the Humberside team prevailed again at Tynedale Park by 34-36.
In that season (2023/24) Reece scored the highest number of points ever in a season for the Hull club when he beat the previous record of 254 points scored by James Cameron in 2008/09.
This season Reece joined the newest professional Rugby League team in the United Kingdom – Goole Vikings. Formed in 2018 as an amateur club the Vikings obtained their licence to enter the professional leagues in September 2024.

2008 AND ALL THAT
The year 2008 may have been a dreadful year for Natural Disasters all over the world, and for financial crises and bank bail-outs, but in Tynedale and Hull’s tiny rugby world it was a time when the two clubs flourished.

For Tynedale 2008 was the year that the 1stXV won promotion to National One- level 3 in the Leagues, where they stayed for seven seasons. That 2007/08 season the team won 24 and drew 1 of the 26 matches played.

For Hull RUFC it meant a move from their old Haworth Park premises to their present Ferens ground, a change which seemed to inspire the club on the field and they were promoted from North East Div.3 to National League Two (North) in the 2008/09 season. (When James Cameron scored his 254 points).

WHO WILL BE RELEGATED
The top places aside this year’s league has been probably as competitive as its ever been with no ”lame ducks” and everyone capable of beating anyone, home or away.
Particularly interesting is down the bottom of the league as five ‘good’ teams battle it out to avoid the bottom two relegation places.

HULL THIS SEASON
Hull’s results this season epitomise the inconsistency of most teams in our league this season.
Some up and down results for Hull coupled with a series of excellent wins by the lower teams in recent weeks has “suddenly” left Hull at the foot of the table – not a position many people would have predicted.
Hull had an invaluable win at Harrogate last week and will be fired-up to get 5 points against us to aid their ‘very achievable’ survival bid – another tough one expected!
