Report from 'The Rugby Paper':-
Hull Ionians gained a comprehensive home victory over Tynedale, outscoring the visitors by eight tries to two at Brantingham Park.
Ionians had the result done and dusted within the opening quarter. Winger Wilson grabbed the opening try in the first minute and three others from Sanderson, Stephenson and Minikin followed at regular intervals for the bonus point to be secured by the 16th minute.
The frenetic pace eased and Tynedale overcame their shell shock. when Ionians over-elaborated trying to run from within their own 22, Tynedale conjured a score for Pike, who outpaced the cover to dot down a neat chip over the defensive line.
Ionians, however, added three further tries in the opening ten minutes of the second half, but again took their foot off the gas and allowed Tynedale to kick to a corner and gain possession close to the line. A commendable, if predictable, passage of pick and drive play eventually wore a hole in the Ionians defence for scrum half Outson to wriggle over.
Ionians regained authority over proceedings and had the final say with a try for replacement Paul Evision, who followed up a well judged chip for a simple touchdown.
