A well-drilled Morpeth team proved too strong for the visitors who started slowly and conceded four tries as they struggled to find any cohesion in the first half. Indeed, if the back three of Jonathan Gormley, Spencer Tolley and Andy Purves had not defended bravely, the lively home back division would have put the game beyond reach.
Spirits were lifted just before the break as Ethan McLeod and Kieran Adams drove the ball towards half-way. Quicksilver scrum-half Sam Harrison needed no encouragement and was off like a shot to link with Martyn Hutton. Having made a half break he was able to release his fellow power-house centre Oliver Hillary who crashed over. Harrison converted to leave the score 22-7 at the break.
The second half was a much closer affair with the strong front row of Ed Weir, Robbie Binks and Rory Craney providing a decent platform allowing the Centurions to have territorial advantage. Unfortunately, turned over ball saw the home side score twice with two fine long-range efforts.
Tynedale continued to battle and Hugh Holland-Creaven battered his way close to the line allowing Callum Foxcroft and Ian Charlton to both have hands on the ball as it was touched down. Charlton claimed the score due to his seniority. Jake Sloan quickly added another as he ducked and dodged would-be tacklers from five metres out with Harrison adding the points.
Harrison, Hutton and Hillary, the Centurions H-bomb attack, all went close but the home defence held firm.
As time was running out the Edwardians were rewarded with two excellent scores to set the seal on a well-deserved victory although, Jonny Pape looked to have the final word as he carried defenders over the line. Ex-international referee Dave Pearson, who had a wonderful game, didn't see a grounding and blew the final whistle on an entertaining game that was perhaps a little closer than the score-line suggests.
