Ken Bell
During the year the club suffered a massive blow with the death of Ken Bell, a life-member and former President of the club.
'K.T.' first burst on the Tynedale scene when, as an eighteen-year-old National Serviceman in the R.A.F., he was brought into Tynedale's Northumberland Senior Cup winning side of 1948, at centre three-quarter. However, he was a natural fly-half with his electric pace over short distances, his eye for a gap and tactical awareness, arguably Tynedale's best in the 50 years after the Second World War, and he went on to play for the club and the County for many years.
As an administrator he, as Hon. Treasurer, and S.T. Enevoldson, as Hon.Secretary, held the club together through the difficult 60's and 70's. Daily meetings at Pointings (then in Hexham) determined much of Tynedale's policy and Ken also represented the club on the Northumberland Committee from 1960 until he became President of the County. With Bill Dinning and Jim Chapman in particular he was instrumental in pushing through the purchase of Tynedale Park and the move to Corbridge. For these and other services he was awarded life-membership of the club in 1977.
Ken and Jim Chapman, those inseparable friends, were constant supporters of Tynedale teams (and the County) at home and away, and Jim's death in 1996 was a devastating blow to Ken. We in turn have now lost a tremendous supporter of rugby football, a loyal friend of the club and a truly great Tynedale character.

Appointments
The clubhouse was given a facelift following the appointment of a clubhouse manager (Jeff Vipond) and a new steward - Keith Millar. Hugh Butler, who had worked as club steward for 7 years, left for a full-time post in banking. Tony Curtis also retired as Chairman of the House & Bar Committee after many years of service.
Roof Appeal
A roof appeal was launched to raise £10,000 towards the cost of a new roof for the clubhouse, which would cost £32,000, and three quarters of that target had been reached by the end of the season.
Transfer
The club's bar trade was transferred from the Federation Brewery to Newcastle Breweries Ltd.
